The movement ecology of seabirds has been my primary focus over the last few years. I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to work with many species. Although I have primarily worked with northern gannets, I have also had the chance to work with storm petrels, Manx shearwaters, razorbills, and puffins to name a few!
The majority of photographs below come from my work with northern gannets on Great Saltee in County Wexford, Ireland. The remainder of photographs are from tagging European storm petrels in County Galway, Ireland. Both projects equipped birds with GPS tags to explore where they go and how they interact with the environment around them. Understanding the movement and distribution of these animals is just a small part of the knowledge we need to help in their conservation.
There really is no place better than being in the middle of a seabird colony or an offshore island and I have been lucky to catch and GPS tag the North Atlantic’s largest and smallest seabirds.
